GGSAC

The German Genomic Sequence Analysis Consortium

GGSAC was founded by three independent groups, namely

Department of Genome Analysis
Head: Matthias Platzer

Since the early nineties GGSAC's member groups have been involved in many large scale DNA sequencing projects. As most prominent examples may be considered the genomes of yeast, Arabidopsis thaliana, man, chimpanzee, Dictyostelium discoideum, Sorangium cellulosum.

Most of the funding was raised from public sources, in particular from the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

GGSAC is a founding member of the International Sequencing Consortium (http://www.intlgenome.org/).

GGSAC will follow two major lines of investigations:
  1. de novo sequencing and analysis to unravel genomic evolution
  2. (re-)sequencing of medically important regions of the human genome and the genomes of model organisms (www.resequencing.mpg.de)
